Fossil hunting

-

4 The jewel of the Jurassic Coast, Lyme Regis is most famous for its fossils, some of which date back 180 million years. If you stroll along Monmouth beach, keep your eyes peeled; you’re walking in an ‘ammonite graveyard’, a layer of limestone containing an untold number of ammonites. These ribbed, spiralling shells have become emblems of Lyme Regis, and you’ll see them everywhere you go. The charming village of Charmouth is also famous for its fossils. Visit the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre museum to see the full skeleton of an ichthyosaur.
