Providing Eye Care throughout lockdown and beyond

-

During

the recent lockdown, opticians were given the option to close or remain open to provide ‘urgent and essential’ eye care. The aim was for opticians to support the NHS and prevent unnecessary visits to GPS and A&E.

As a family owned independent practice, The Richard Tildesley Practice chose to stay open.

Dispensing Optician and practice owner Paul made around 100 deliveries of repaired and replacement spectacles to patient’s doorsteps whilst Optometrist Fiona was able to provide reassurance to worried patients, or refer for further treatment. Since lockdown the practice has enjoyed receiving many positive comments and reviews about the services provided.

Routine eye care appointments have now resumed, and the practice is feeling positive about the future. Paul said

“As we have been open throughout lockdown, we have had protective screens, PPE and infection prevention measures in place since March. Our spacious premises and limited patient numbers allow for social distancing and we have even invested in a UVC steriliser so that all our eyewear is completely sterilised between patients”.

Patients who are apprehensive about attending for an eye exam can be reassured by the practice’s personal approach. Fiona said “As an independent practice, we have always provided a high level of service tailored around each individual and this is now more important than ever.”
