The popular Chichester Half Marathon is the latest sporting casualty of the lockdown
The 2020 Chichester Half Marathon is off.
The popular race is the latest sporting casualty of the coronavirus pandemic.
Organisers Everyone Active, said it regretted the cancellation of the event, which had been due to take place on Sunday, October 4.
In the light of the pandemic and restrictions on group gatherings, organisers concluded the event would not be possible.
Stuart Mills, contract manager at Everyone Active, said: “Along with a number of other event organisers, we have not taken the decision lightly to cancel the Chichester Half Marathon.
“The likelihood of a much smaller field than usual and the potential reduction in the runners’ enjoyment of the experience made the decision inevitable.
“We understand that this will be sad news for many, but wanted to give all prospective entrants as much notice as possible ahead of the event.
“The organisers are determined to be back with the event in 2021.”
Those who have already entered will have their entry carried forward to next year.
Everyone Active hope to stage a ‘virtual’ alternative.
