Markets open – but signs poor

-

Your reader P. Hobday (Opinion, July 9) asks when the weekly market will reopen.

The good news is that the markets are already open. The bad news is that few people seem to know this.

The weekly and farmers’ markets are now operating from Market Avenue car park but signposting is so poor it’s not surprising even regular users don’t know that, let alone visitors.

Chichester needs its markets more than ever now. They bring much needed life to the town. If they are to survive the residents, council and BID need to give more support.

Larger signposts and banners would help so people know what markets are on, when and where.

The businesses along the Hornet and in Draper’s Yard would benefit from such a focus as well. Perhaps the Observer could help by doing a feature on this characterful area of town.
