Supporters step up and help raise over £52,000

More than 600 people stepped up for a Bosham hospice’s fundraiser last week to raise over £52,000.

The St Wilfrid’s Hospice supporters took on 10,000 or 20,000-step challenges as part of the charity’s Moonlight Walk Week.

Walkers collectively blazed a trail 4,550km long from Emsworth to Arundel, Midhurst to Selsey, in Chichester, Bognor, the five villages and many more places besides.

Chief executive Alison Moorey said: “During these strange times, we are incredibly proud so many members of the local community stepped up to support St Wilfrid’s vital work in the local community.

“It is only thanks to this ongoing support of the public that we can continue caring for local people living with a terminal illness as they face new and ever changing challenges.”

Ruth Cleeves has been a fundraising supporter for St Wilfrid’s for ten years.

She said: “I’d always set myself the ambitious goal to raise £10,000 for St Wilfrid’s in memory of Frank, Susan and my wonderful mother Mary.

“I am immensely proud to say, having now completed seven walks in seven days for Moonlight Walk Week, I have finally reached that goal!”

Estate agents Henry Adams, who sponsored the event, said: “We were delighted to support the Moonlight Walk Week 2020 because St Wilfrid’s means so much to so many local families.

“The dedicated staff provide vital care to many in our local community when it’s needed most, so we were delighted to step up for Moonlight Walk Week and make it a fundraising event to remember.”

Fundraisers have been getting fit while honouring a loved one by swimming, walking, running, skipping and even horseback riding their own personal distances to make the Moonlight Walk their own.

The hospice’s community fundraising manager, Alex Burch, said: “It’s been humbling to see an outpouring of goodwill and kind words being matched with action.

“Everyone here from our heroic nurses to our tireless housekeeping staff have been buoyed by all the lovely Moonlight Walk Week pictures coming in.”

All walkers have until December 1 to get their fundraising in to the hospice, with several prizes up for grabs for top fundraising teams and individuals.
