A team of walkers has raised nearly £2,000 for Bosham’s St Wilfrid’s hospice.
A team of walkers has raised nearly £2,000 for a Bosham hospice in memory of the father of one of their friends who died earlier this year.
Mark Spindler was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the groin in October last year and died less than three months later on January 15, aged 67.
St Wilfrid’s Hospice provided support for Mark and his family during his final months, and his daughter Karen Spindler decided to take part in Moonlight Walk Week to raise money for the charity.
Karen said: “St Wilfrid’s kept in contact the whole way through our journey, from visits to the house, sorting out equipment for Dad allowing his care to continue at home, to arranging nurses who managed his medical needs.
“Their emotional support and practical knowledge was invaluable.”
Karen rallied her friends to join her on the fundraising walk and Mark’s Sparkles was born.

Mark’s Sparkles walked five miles around Bognor and Felpham, starting at Syrup
Cafe, in Station Road, and back along the seafront.
Team member Tina, 41, has also received support from St Wilfrid’s since she was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in October 2018.
Despite her cancer now being terminal, Tina completed the five-mile walk alongside two of her children, Rosie and Matt, aged 16 and 11.
