Busker inspires a wedding day dance

-

A Chichester busker’s romantic response to a passing wedding couple has gone viral.

As the wedding party came into view in East Street, Will Tierney changed his tune – and serenaded them with Queen’s Crazy Little Thing Called Love.

The newlyweds – Jack and Rosie Davis – joined in the fun and quickly started dancing in the street – a moment captured on video by Debbie Ford. It has now been shared more than 1,000 times on Facebook.

Will, originally from Chichester and now living in Southsea, said: “It was a great buzz. It was really lovely. It was really great – purely by chance. Before the pandemic, I was a full-time musician and all the gigs disappeared, so I have started busking in Portsmouth. This was actually my first gig in Chichester. And I had only been there about five minutes when I heard cheering and shouting, and I could see that there was something going on at the cross. And then I saw the couple coming towards me so I thought I had better change the tune to something more romantic. I can’t remember what I was playing… and the couple just started dancing. There was an impromptu party in the street. It was great. I never expected it! A lot of the time, people just don’t seem to notice buskers; they are just part of the landscape. But this was just lovely, with the whole street seeming to be dancing.”

Will, a former student at Parklands and Chichester High School, plans to busk during the week in Portsmouth and aims to get back to his old home town of Chichester for the weekends.
