A Chichester school was evacuated this week after three pupils and a teacher suffered allergic reactions.

Chichester Free School was evacuated after the group suffered an allergic reaction to an unknown substance.

The incident saw a large emergency service response with multiple ambulances, police cars and two fire engines attending the scene.

A spokesman for Sussex Police confirmed officers attended and said there were no serious concerns for those affected.

The spokesman said: “The school was evacuated as a precaution but emergency services have since stood down from the scene.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances, and to determine whether any offences have been committed.”

A school was evacuated this week after three students and a teacher suffered allergic reactions.

The incident took place at Chichester Free School on Tuesday and saw three students taken to hospital. A teacher was also treated at the scene. Students were commended for their mature behaviour.

In an email to parents, principal Louise Newsaid:“at 1pm today in the secondary phase of the school, there were four allergic reactions which required the presence of ambulances and response medics.

“Due to the number and

severity of these reactions we acted on the advice of the emergency services to evacuate the whole school to their outside zones.

“The year group bubbles were not broken during this procedure and I am very proud of the mature response from all of the pupils.

“The emergency services have praised the school’s swift response to this incident and the pupils’ calm and mature behaviour throughout.’

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said: “Crews ensured the area affected was wellventilated. There is not believed to be any wider risk to school pupils or staff, or the general public, as a result of this incident, and lessons have since resumed as normal.”
