Works starts to improve one of our ‘hidden gems’
Improvement works started this week at Chichester’s Priory Park.
Fencing has been installed around the motte to allow for the works, which started on Tuesday and will reinstate the park’s grass banks.
The fencing will be in place for around three months to allow the new surface to establish, Chichester District Council said.
A council spokesperson said: “The works are necessary to repair the areas where the surface has become rutted and ensure the motte remains safe and aesthetically pleasing for visitors to enjoy. When work commences, the junior play area will be closed for safety reasons. It is estimated this will be for around two weeks.”

area, sand pit and larger equipment around the perimeter will remain open subject to routine safety inspections.
Councillor Penny Plant, cabinet member for environment and Chichester Contract Services, said: “It’s really important that we maintain our much-loved parks and gardens, and keep them safe and beautiful for our residents and visitors to enjoy. There will be a small amount of disruption while improvement work takes place, however this will be kept to a minimum wherever possible. Priory Park is one of Chichester’s hidden gems, and now more than ever it is important that residents have access to high quality outdoor spaces. As a council, we maintain 94 different parks, gardens and green spaces. All of these are free to visit and provide opportunities to improve health, enjoy nature, relax and unwind, and to play and have fun.”
