Leaders knocked off perch by Lions

- PAUL DAVIDSON

AFC Uckfield arrived at Pagham as league leaders – but left in third place after a 2-0 defeat.

Lions boss Kerry Hardwell wasdelighted, saying: “I would say it was the most complete performance so far this season.

“The boys were really at the races from the first minute until the last against a top side.

“We should have been more comfortable at half-time but de served the bit of luck we got with our first goal and in the second half we controlled the half with Connorkellynot really having to muchtodo, so it was pleasing when we got the second goal and put the game to bed.

“That’s four wins on the bounce with three having clean sheets.”

For Uckfield, the score could have been worse with sharp er finishing by the hosts.

As early as the third minute Grant Radmore had a chance to put Pagham in front, but he hit his 20-yarder straight at keeper Tibble. Jared Rance wasdenied in the 14th minute as Tibble saved with his feet.

Sam Connolly watched his 20-yard drive drift wide, then Jack Williamson’s header was pushed over the bar.

But Tibble showed he was fallible as he caught a 40-yard lob from Sam Connolly and withtheball in his hands, gently fell over the goal-line.

On 52 minutes Joe Clarke could only watch his chip drift over the bar.

On the hour the Lions grabbed their second with a penalty after an Uckers defender brought down joe bennett in the box. Rance laced the kick low and hard into the net for 2-0.

It wasn’t all one-sided now though as Uckfield had their This excellent winpushedpagham up to sixth.

Pagham fought back from 1-0and2-1 downtodraw2-2at Lancing on Tuesday, Joe Bennett and Joe Clarke on target.
