New chairman to help guide charity through challenges

- Elaine Hammond news@chiobserver.co.uk

Voluntary Action Arun & Chichester has a new chairman to guide the charity’s vital work as it faces the challenges ahead.

Sue Holmes is taking over from Tony Sneller, who been chairman since VAAC was formed by the merger of CVS Arunwide and Voluntary & Community Action Chichester District in 2012.

Sue has been a trustee since 2015 and vicechairman since 2018, as well as having experience with other charities and Bognor Regis Town Council.

Tony, who was previously chairman of VCACD for five years, remains on the board as a trustee.

He said: “Sue has contributed much to the trustee discussions and has brought insight and understanding of the voluntary sector and from her time with local government. I am confident that she will continue to guide the trustees as they support the chief executive, Hilda Sherwood, and the VAAC team in the future.”

The charity has been playing an important role during the Covid-19 outbreak, working with the councils to co-ordinate volunteering in the area.

Sue said: “I am very pleased, if a little daunted, to follow in Tony’s footsteps. His great knowledge and experience has steered VAAC through many changes and challenges.

“These challenges continue. The work that VAAC does in supporting local charities and organisations is more vital than ever as we continue to deal with the ongoing issues presented by Covid.”
