Chichester among clubs to get share of Covid fund
Chichester Golf Club is one of seven in Sussex to benefit from a huge England Golf shareout from its Covid-19 Support Fund.
The ruling body carried out a thorough assessment of all submissions to the aid kitty before distributing £2.55m, provided by The R&A, to 328 affiliated clubs and facilities all across England. Clubs and facilities, which were able to demonstrate a financial need and a well-structured plan designed to assist business resilience and promote future sustainability, have each received funding of up to £10,000.
Seven Sussex clubs have had grants awarded: ■ Chichester GC-£5,000
■ Brighton & Hove GC - £6,000 ■ Dyke GC - £6,000
■ Highwoods GC - £5,750
■ Hill Barn GC- £4,000
■ Singing Hills Golf Course - £5,000
■ Worthing GC - £9,656
It’s a big boost to the clubs but some clubs have not been so fortunate.
With 775 applicants to the fund, and these applications totalling over £7.2m, England Golf was unable to satisfy all requests. Now £500,000 of additional investment from England Golf will come as welcome news to a number of clubs and facilities who just missed out on the first tranche of funding provided by The R&A.
Chief executive officer Jeremy Tomlinson said: “It was clear to us that if we could dedicate money to invest in sustainable projects at clubs in the short-term, then the long-term benefits could be substantial for our game. We have listened to our clubs and worked with them.”
