Sussex star celebrates her best bowling for England
Sussex’s Freya Davies recorded her best figures in an England shirt as the tourists took an unassailable 2-0 lead in their T20 series against New Zealand in Wellington.
It came in the middle of a series that England won 3-0 with Davies and her Sussex teammate Danni Wyatt each playing key roles.
The seamer took 4-23 from her four overs as the hosts were restricted to 1239 batting first at the Westpac Stadium.
Entering the attack in the fifth over, Davies struck with her sixth delivery, having opener Hayley Jensen caught in the deep.
Then in the15th over, the 25-year-old bowled the White Ferns’ top-scorer Amy Satterthwaite for 49 before having Maddy Green caught behind for a duck three balls later.
In the right-armer’s final over, she made it four when Kate Ebrahim was bowled for two.
There were two wickets each for Nat Sciver and Sarah Glenn, and one for Sophie Ecclestone.
Tammy Beaumont continued her sublime form with bat by scoring 63 at the top of the order, as England cruised to victory with 2.4 overs to spare.
Wyatt made nine and Davies
was named player of the match.
In the third and final gameonsunday,wyattmade three and Davies one not out in what looked a below-par England score of 128-9.
But in the hosts’ reply, Davies was one of six bowlers to take at least one wicket as New Zealand were bowled out for for another below par score of 96.
