Chichester City 4 Whitstable 0

FA Trophy 1st qual round

Goals from Corey Heath, Tyrone Madhani and Callum Overton (2) put City through to the next round of the Trophy.

Whitstable, whose manager and striker departed in midweek, started the brighter of the two teams.

Liam Gillies, Ryan Flack, James Brown and George Mcilroy linked up two minutes in only for Chi defenders to smuggle a cross away.

Heath grabbed the opening goal of the game in the 39th minute, steering home Rob Hutchings’ corner.

And it was 2-0 two minutes later when Overton tucked the ball away after a slick exchange between Emmett Dunn and Ryan Davidson.

Chi added a third goal with a wonderful Overton strike on 64 minutes as the No9 bagged a second double in three games.

Madhani was brought down but picked himself up and scored a lovely free-kick for his fourth goal in four games on the bounce.

Chichester will host Gt Wakering Rovers in the next round on October 9.

Selsey 3 Roffey 0 SCFL division one

Roffey didn’t get into their stride and most of the attacking in the early stages was from the home side – and Luis Corriea had to be alert to several shots from outside the box.

Selsey took the lead when Roffey, not for the first time, gave the ball away in their own half and it was sent forward to Evan Harris who slotted into the bottom corner.

It looked like it was 1-1 when Tiago Andrade made room for a shot from the edge of the box and drilled the ball into the bottom corner. The assistant had flagged for something. After consultation, the goal was disallowed because it was ruled the shot had deflected off Ricardo Fernandes, who was in an offside position.

In the second half Harris hit the goal of the game. Giv

en time on the D he looked up and curled the ball into the top corner.

Twenty minutes from time, Brad Higgins Pearce made the most of a tangle on the edge of the visitors’ area to slot home the third despite Roffey’s appeal for a foul.

Bosham lost 2-0 at home to Copthorne in their latest SCFL division two fixture.

It leaves them 11th in the table and they will aim to improve when they host Charlwood on Saturday.

East Dean 6 Optimus 2 WSFL Centenary Cup

East Dean progressed through to the next round of the cup with a 6-2 thrashing over Optimus FC.

Optimus took an early lead after a mistake at the back but Brad Hounsome scored a free kick shortly after to draw the scores level.

He added a second after a nice pass from Jake Stanley.

Hounsome returned the favour for Stanley, tapping home from close range. Just before half-time Hounsome rounded off a hat-trick.

Optimus pulled it back to 4-2 after the break.

It didn’t take long for East Dean to extend their lead again as Ben Pett nudged the ball home. Stanley doubled his tally following a brilliant drilled cross from Jack

Eames. East Dean face Harting in the next round.

Rocks 2

Wingate & Finchley 2 Isthmian premier

Goals by Harvey Whyte and Nathan Odokonyero rescued a point for Bognor after they’d gone 2-0 down at home to Wingate and Finchley – the third time this season they’ve gone two down then fought back to draw.

Wingate and Finchley kicked off proceedings and started brightly as Alphanso Kennedy set up Bilal Sayoud but his shot didn’t trouble Amadou Tangara as it was too high.

The visitors went in front on 18 minutes as Kennedy’s

shot from the outside the penalty boxwas cruelly deflected and Tangara was beaten.

Bognor nearly had an equaliser from Jordy Mongoy but it was cleared off the line.

Bognor had half chances but couldn’t find the target. And on 40 minutes, Tangara was beaten again as Kennedy went to the byline and crossed the ball which Joe Dandy was unlucky to put in his own goal.

Bognor started to get back into it after the break and halved the deficit through a strike by Whyte from 30 yards which he put in the top corner.

Wingate and Finchley were committing an increasing number of fouls but there were no yellow cards, to the disappointment of the home fans.

Bognor made two changes as Ashton Leigh replaced Ethan Robb and new signing Harrison Brook – who left Pompey Academy in the summer – replaced Mongoy.

Wingate had chances to extend their lead further but in the last seconds of the 90 minutes, Bognor got their deserved equaliser through Odokonyero, who whipped a shot into the top right-hand corner from a tight angle.

Specsavers MOM was Jake Flannigan although many thought Whyte was unlucky not to get the vote.

The Rocks go to Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday – fuel shortage permitting.

Pagham will host Snodland Town in the first round of the FA Vase on October 23.

Winning sides in the round pick up £825 prize money. It follows their win in a penalty shootout at the end of a 2-2 draw at Alton in Saturday’s second qualifying round.

Jack Langford and Ryan Morey looked to have put the Lions on the way to a victory but a stoppage-time leveller took it to penalties and keepr Lewis Boughton was the hero with three saves from the same penalty.
