Parents triumph over teachers
After a Covid-induced hiatus, Sidlesham Primary School celebrated the return of its annual Games Day last week.
This year the children got to try yoga, dance, football, tennis, basketball, tunnelling, rounders and dodgeball ahead of the parents taking on the teachers in this year’s chosen sport of netball.
While it was a keenly contested game, the parents ran out comfortable winners in the end and retained the coveted trophy for another year.
Deputy head teacher James Blake-lobb said: “The whole day was fantastic, but it was particularly wonderful to be able to have the wider school community together for the netball match in the afternoon.
“We’ve somewhat
limited on the number of events we’ve been able to host in the past 18 months, so it was great to welcome back our families to the school field.
“Unfortunately for our staff, the parents won (again) but everyone who took part or spectated had a brilliant time.
“The children spent the morning experiencing a range of sports, developing new skills and I was proud of the way they competed sportingly with pride and passion.
“It’s important to us at Sidlesham to encourage our children to be active and healthy and Games Day is a highlight in our calendar which brings everyone together to compete and celebrate sport.”
Sports lead Ben Allen said: “It’s a great opportunity to get our children active and inspire them to try sports they may not have previously.
“The aim is to give our children positive experiences of sport and exercise to help them to be happy and healthy in body and mind.
“For some it will be the first taste they’ve had of these sports, and can lead to passions and new hobbies they take with them far beyond their time with us.”
