What joy – a live performance! Jennifer Parker-lummis entertained members in person at our September meeting, her wonderful soprano voice giving us some of opera’s finest arias, from Puccini and Delibes and well-known songs from modern musicals.

Those of us who recognised the music but not conversant with the plots are now much better informed, thanks to Jennifer’s interesting and occasionally humorous descriptions.

Her vocal interpretation was wonderful and most moving, especially in the emotional One Fine Day and her encore piece I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables.

Attendance was limited by social distancing but we all enjoyed this in-person event.

Our Zoom October 21 meeting is Jenny Mallen’s talk ‘A Grandmother’s Legacy – Aspects of India’.

The November 18 meeting will be in person, and December’s talk is Zoomed.

By the new year we hope to have a clear idea of what 2022 holds.

However, there is one empty chair that belonged to Wendy Whitmarsh, who passed away in lockdown earlier this year.

Wendy was a lovely lady who ran our raffle and a craft morning at her home for many long years.

She was one of our longest members on our committee and she belonged to Aldingbourne WI before that when her children where young.

Wendy will be very sadly missed and our condolences go to her family.

We are very pleased to say that Cathy is taking on the raffle and Kate will be running the craft morning to keep up Wendy’s hard work.

Thank you to all our members who have stayed with us and offered help through these difficult times.

We will go forwards from strength to strength!

Well ladies, come and join us on the second Tuesday of the month at 2pm at the Westergate Methodist Church Hall or if you wish to know more, contact Jacky on 01243 545910.
