A cricketer from West Sussex has been named the Lord's Taverners Disability Cricketer of the Year Award at the annual Cricket Writers' Club awards.

Sussex D40 batteralfie Pyle has completed a special year that has seen him win both team and individual trophies, as well as making his England debut.

Pyle, who recently made his debut for the England Learning Disability XI, has become something of a hero on and off the field.

He lifted the Disability Premier League trophy with the England Hawks after they beat the England Pirates in the final, live on Sky Sports.

And he has since become the first Lord's Taverners Super 1s participant to go from a hub setting through the county system and on to England honours.

Pyle is now also putting something back into the system that helped him gain international recognition as a coach.

"I am so happy that I'm doing the Lord's Taverners (Super 1s coaching),” he said. "People are going to be looking up at me doing coaching.”

BOWLS

Arun District Indoor Bowling Club had a great return match versus Victory IBC from Portsmouth at home.

It was a very close game and was touch and go right to the end with Victory winning by 99-94.

Victory were cock-a-hoop as it was the first time that they had beaten Arun on Arun territory for many years, completing the double.

Arun will hope for better fortunes next year.
