P15 Picnic
September 28-29, 2019 Great Central Railway & Abbey Pumping Station, Leicester Here’s an event we didn’t manage to squeeze into our events coverage before the onset of Covid-19. We thought it would be nice for readers to look back on a happy event like th
When a handful of postwar Chrysler/ Plymouth owners got together for their first UK meet a few years ago, nobody dreamt that the event would get bigger every year and grow to include welcoming enthusiasts from as far away as Scandinavia and the US. However, last September’s P-15 Picnic broke records again with a line-up of 16 postwar Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto and Chrysler cars plus a variety of beautiful ‘guest’ classics, including a ’47 Nash, early Fifties Chevrolets, prewar Plymouth coupes and more. Cars were brought from all across the country and overseas owners flew in from America, Sweden and Finland for two laid-back days of automobile-inspired camaraderie. Meeting at Grand Central Railway on Saturday and at Abbey Pumping Station on Sunday, with cruises on both days plus a group dinner with music and dancing on Saturday night, the weekend had plenty for everyone. In addition to museum tours and steam train rides, there was even a performance by a theremin player and plenty of interesting (and interested) people at the railway, which was also hosting its first steampunk festival on the same day! Check out these pictures and if you’re interested in joining the fun in the future, keep your eyes peeled in Classic American for the announcement of the next event (probably in 2021) with a visit to the British Motor Museum on the Sunday. Check future CA Event pages or email Robin@RockTheJoint.com for details. Everyone’s welcome!
