Corvette – America’s sports car

-

The Corvette has over time proved to be a big success story for Chevrolet since its inception back in 1953. In that first year of C1 production, all Corvettes were hand built and came with polo white exteriors, red interiors and black canvas tops. The design evolved throughout that year and only 300 of the hand-built fibreglass sports cars were built in ’53. Initial public response wasn’t so positive, but Chevrolet continued to develop the car and throughout its nineyear production run, the C1 would see a plethora of changes to the styling along with straight-six and V8 engine options to improve its appeal. By 1962, the iconic shark’s tooth grille had departed, though Steve has chosen to retro-fit an earlier style grille to his example. ’62 was the last year the Corvette would benefit from a trunk until 1998 and the last time it would come with exposed headlights until 2005!
