COMPACT TEARDROP TO HITCH & TOW
Greenlight Collectibles has cornered a niche spot of the die-cast market with its many and varied trailers and caravans. This tidy and unusual 1:24 scale 1947 KenSkill Kustom Kamper compact teardrop caravan has a number of extra accessories included. There’s a typically American-style bicycle, a kayak, a cooler and a picnic basket. In fact all you’d need for a weekend away in the wilds. KenSkill or Ken-Skill, (spelt various ways!) based in Burbank, California, made some 200 teardrop caravans by hand from 1946 to 1948, before expanding its business into larger and more mass-produced caravans. The advantage of the teardrop was that the ‘tail’ end could be opened up to reveal cooking and storage facilities, leaving the front for a double berth bed. They were compact, but with a canopy erected over the rear they could accommodate just about anything a weekend camper would need. The models are assembled and painted to Greenlight’s usual high standards and are available in several colour combinations. Inevitably, prices vary, hovering between £30 and £35.
