UNLIMITED POST-CLASSIC HONDA CB750

- Simon Cook

One of the original ‘T-rex’ Hondas that shook up the Australian Post-classic Unlimited class in the early 1990s, this old warhorse is still a winner. Simon bought it in 1998 from Perry Jory, business partner of Rex Wolfenden, and has won two national championships on it. One involved him driving alone from South Australia to Perth (about the same distance as travelling from London to Turkey), beating Rex at his own game, then driving back home with the trophy on the back seat and the bike in the trailer.

“I camped on the side of the road halfway across the Nullabor and cracked a bottle of red to celebrate,” said Simon. When Simon bought it, the big four was in 1062cc form, running on Avgas. A mechanic by trade, Simon has converted it to 1120cc running on methanol. He also replaced the original 35mm forks with stronger 38mm stanchions.

Apart from that, the bike is very close to its original specification but still clocks 140mph down Gardner Straight.
