1974 TRIUMPH 750 BONNEVILLE
An older restoration with some recent TLC applied, Bill Stoyel’s Bonnie zoomed out to the circuit at a tick over the legal speed limit, loaded up with camping gear. I know, because he overtook me on the road down from Melbourne. It arrived at the island after a faultless run and with no oil leaks, but things weren’t always like this.
“I fitted new carbs and a Tri-spark ignition system to the old girl to help keep my sanity,” said Bill as he prepared to unload. “When I got it I did the usual things, like fix a leak from a pushrod tube and fit new front fork oil seals,” he said.
He also got the tank repainted to colours he liked, upgraded the handling with progressive springs in the front forks, and installed a remote oil-filter kit.
“I usually ride it out to the Motogp when it’s down here,” said Bill.
I bet it draws a crowd there among the blinged-up modern road bikes.
