Kings of the Mountain
The Classic TT has grown massively in stature and popularity since it grew out of the Manx Grand Prix classic races in 2013. Now firmly established as a major event in its own right, this year’s Classic TT looks set to be the best one ever. Racing is spread over three days, with the Bennetts Senior Classic race on the morning of Saturday August 25 – and then, in the afternoon, it’s the turn of the 250s in the Dunlop Lightweight Classic. On Monday 27, there’s the Junior Classic TT in the morning and the RST Classic TT Superbike races to round off the competitive action – but there’s plenty more for classic fans to enjoy in between the races.
Surely one of the highlights of the four days will be the special Hailwood tribute lap, celebrating the great man’s amazing TT comeback win in 1978. John Mcguinness will be aboard Hailwood’s original Sports Motorcycles Ducati for the lap, which is sure to bring a tear to the eye of many a TT fan – including Hailwood’s widow Pauline and son David, who will be cheering Mcguinness on. Then there’s the Classic TT Paddock Carnival on the 24th, the VMCC’S Festival of Jurby on the 26th and the Lap of Honour for former TT stars and their machines between the two races on the 27th.
