Our man Gez samples a selection of super-tuned SRM BSAS in Wales

How could we resist an invitation to Aberystwyth to ride a BSA A10, Spitfire and Firebird, all tweaked by local firm SRM?

For nearly 40 years, SRM have been dedicated to preserving, improving and refining BSA and Triumph twins. And they’ve constantly expanded the range of services they can offer classic bike owners to include full restorations, engine rebuilds and bespoke engineering solutions during that time. Now, the Aberystwyth-based firm really are a one-stop shop for just about anything you might need for your BSA or Triumph twin. They manufacture or stock a huge range of parts and upgrades for performance, reliability – or both. And they’ve become a valued and trusted part of the classic scene.

But it’s with BSAS that they first made their name – and products for the Armoury Road twins still make up a huge part of their business. From the innovative and well-known needle roller main bearing conversion for A10s to the latest in electronic ignitions, if you’ve hit a problem with your BSA twin, SRM can help you sort it out.

So, what does the man with all this at his fingertips ride? BSA twins, naturally. Jon Jolley (left) may have other bikes in his collection, but BSA twins remain very close to his heart. From the A10 he’s owned for 40 years to his gorgeous A65 Firebird, Jon’s BSAS all benefit from his years of experience – and the contents of the SRM catalogue. To prove the worth of both, Jon’s invited us to sample three very different bikes from his garage. None of them are garage queens – they’re all ridden regularly. And that’s a good job – it looked a little damp out there for our test rides...
