1960 Moto Morini Tresette 175cc ~ Karl Seare

-

Karl has owned his Moto Morini for about 10 years, having bought it as a spare for using on the Motogiro should a problem arise with his 1954 Moto Morini Turismo. “Needless to say, it was not required, but it’s a fine bike in its own right and did the Giro the following year,” he explains.

Karl has completed the Motogiro d’italia twice without issue. Why does he like it? “You see many places and meet a wide range of people. The days can be long, but you see so much. The various timed stops ensure that you keep up a steady pace, but the food and drink along the way can make this a bit of a challenge.”

Karl took part in the 2020 Three Moors Run after an unexpected call from a friend brought it to his attention. Subsequent emails to Russell Benney soon had him enrolled for the event. “It was great and took us through some magnificent countryside along many B-roads. These were ideal for the little tiddlers and kept you on your toes. Coupled with some good hotels and nice people, it made for a memorable event. For a first time, it had the hallmarks of an event that would grow in all aspects.

“Then, building on the experiences of last year, this one was even better. The numbers have almost doubled to 40 riders this time, meaning the logistics required some careful management. Additional support vehicles were on hand and the people driving them gave superb service in terms of moving lots of luggage as well as manning the recovery operation.

The hotels were well chosen and provided everything that was required. Some of the meals were truly memorable. And what a range of machinery!

“As for this year’s routes, once more these took in a wide variety of roads with sweeping bends and hairpins, along with steep ascents and descents. The rides along the valleys made you keep a close eye on the road conditions – they were damp with the odd bit of gravel thrown in for free.

“Overall, the event was brilliant – really good for mind and body. This is due to the professional manner in which Russell operates – and his attention to detail pays dividends.

“The best bit was riding across the moors – the views were amazing and riding a slow slalom course through the animals is not to be missed. Add in some morning mist and the ghostly sight of an enormous cow materialising in front of you when travelling along a sheep-lined road... you get the picture. I’ll be back next year, as I’m sure Russell will put together another memorable event and we’ll travel on some more magical roads.”
