ESTIMATE £15,000-18,000 1970/71 Arter Matchless, Charterhouse sale, March 30
Tom Arter was one of a handful of race bike builders fighting to extend the competitive life of the traditional British single in the early ’70s. His bikes featured his own frame, with a Matchless G50 engine, cast alloy wheels and disc brakes. The prototype was raced by Peter Williams, who finished second to Giacamo Agostini in the 1970 Senior TT and also took second in the ’71 Senior.
This machine, one of only two or three Arter/ Matchless race bikes built, was bought by the late owner as a rolling chassis with Schafleitner six-speed gearbox. He sourced a period G50 engine, Lucas 2MTT magneto and Amal TT carb before racing the bike at Daytona in 1993. charterhouse-bikes.com
ESTIMATE £4500-6500 1965 Triumph T120R, H&H sale March 29
This very good looking 1965 Us-market Triumph T120R Bonneville was repatriated and restored in 2009 by Misden Engineering and a UK registration was obtained. The engine was totally rebuilt, with new main bearings, big end shells and +20 thou pistons.
It benefits from Boyer electronic ignition, new reproduction exhausts, carburettors and the speedometer was refurbished. The frame has been powder coated, the wheels have been rebuilt with stainless steel spokes and all cosmetics are in first-class order. ESTIMATE £2000-£3000 1961 Norton Dominator 99 H&H sale, March 29
This complete and substantially original 1961 Norton Dominator 99 looks like an ideal restoration project. Bought by the vendor’s father from well-known Southport dealer Fred Stevens in the ’60s, it was passed on to the vendor in 1979 and was last ridden some time in the early ’80s before being stored away as a project for the future.
While the Dommie is in need of total restoration, it’s becoming a rare occurrence to come across a Slimline Dominator in such unmolested condition. It’s a matching numbers bike with a V5 registration document and is being offered for sale at a realistic estimate. handh.co.uk
