Online auction house in ExCeL C-type push
An online auction company is looking to introduce monthly classic car sales and is using a famous Jaguar C-type to help promote its business.
Encouraged by its classic car sales to date, William George & Co plans to expand this side of its business and will be publicising it at this month’s London Classic Car Show.
Featured on its stand at London’s ExCeL on 18-21 February will be the fifth built Jaguar C-type, MDU 212. In June 1952 Stirling Moss drove the C-type to victory in the Reims sports car race – the first competition win for a car with disc brakes.
The Peterborough, Cambs, based company, that also auctions art, antiques and collectables online, introduced occasional classic car sales last year and is now looking to increase the range of vehicles offered and the frequency of auctions.
‘We’re looking to hold one classic car sale each month and are really pushing to establish this,’ says spokesman Robin Gray. The company does not charge any fees to sellers, while there is a sliding scale of charges for people buying cars, rising to a maximum of 10% plus VAT.
Vendors supply details and images of their vehicles to William George & Co whose sales are hosted by online sites bidspotter.co.uk and i-bidder. com. The cars for sale remain at the vendors’ locations.
