‘Dream collection’ for sale

-

A privately owned ‘dream collection’ of 58 classic cars has been put up for sale. Owner Mark Hinton says the rising costs of storing the cars and looking after them has prompted the decision.

The majority of the cars have been sourced from the US and Australia over many years and are described as being in very good, rust-free condition.

The Oxfordshire-based assortment includes an Australian-spec MercedesBenz 450SLC, three Lotus Esprit V8s, two Porsche 911Es and a 911S, several Jaguars including MkIIs, Series I and II E-types and XJ-S convertibles, and W113-generation Mercedes-Benz SLs in left-hand drive and right-hand drive.

Mark says he doesn’t mind whether all the cars are sold as a single lot or if buyers are only interested in a single car – as long as they go to a good home and they’re enjoyed by their new owners.

‘Each of these cars is driven regularly and I love all of them, but with the cost of storing them going up and up every year I think it’s finally time to move on and let someone else enjoy these wonderful cars,’ he says. ‘It’s my dream collection, so I’ll be keeping a couple for myself.

‘At heart I’m a Lotus fanatic – there’s nothing quite like one, and even a Ferrari doesn’t have the same sort of same sweet handling as a well sorted Esprit. That means I’ll definitely be hanging onto a couple of those.’
