MGB BUYING TIPS WHAT TO LOOK OUT FOR

-

Watch out for bodywork issues, particularly the sills, which are quite a complex structure. Beware of stainless steel coversills hiding rot.

The box section behind the front wheelarch can rot out – check carefully here, as well as the wheelarch itself.

Door bottoms, floorpans, battery trays, front scuttles and the area around the rear spring hangers all need careful inspection, as does the entire tailgate assembly.

B-series engines last a long time and are well understood by the trade, but watch for wear on the valve guides and oil stem seals.

Bear in mind there are lots of spare parts available for MGBs and plenty of cars to choose from, so you can afford to be picky.
