Watch out for cor­ro­sion around the chas­sis rails, par­tic­u­larly around the sub­frame mount­ing points. Also in­spect the sus­pen­sion strut points.

A-posts are no­to­ri­ous for rot so check their en­tire length. Also, look ex­tremely care­fully around the boot flfloor area.

Like the MGB, the Tri­umph TR7 has a com­plex sill struc­ture, com­pris­ing an in­ner, outer and cen­tre unit, all of which makes it ex­ceed­ingly dif­fi­fi­fi­cult to re­pair. Beware!

Check the pop-up head­lamps. If nei­ther rises to the oc­ca­sion, faulty wiring is the likely cul­prit.

En­gines can suf­fer from tim­ing gear trou­ble and warped cylin­der heads, along with furredup wa­ter­ways. Be mind­ful that your po­ten­tial pur­chase doesn’t over­heat!
