VW thanks Brit major
Volkswagen has publicly thanked a British army officer who was instrumental in making the company a major postwar automotive manufacturer. Major Ivan Hirst, who would’ve been 100 on 1 March, was a senior resident officer of the British Military Government between August 1945 and April 1949. Volkswagen credits him with laying the groundwork for the rapid growth of the company.
