Updating and uprating its pioneering RPP900 jump pack, Ring’s new REPP950 retains the slightly larger casing to accommodate a stable, thermally safe battery, but is now powerful enough to start petrol cars and light commercials up to three litres. The lithium iron phosphate chemistry reduces the tendency of the battery to heat and swell under charging and under load, an issue that affects highdensity batteries based on lithium cobalt formulations. As expected for this class of device, the RPP950 also includes a 2.1-amp USB charging port for smartphones and tablets, and an LED light to help locate connecting ports in low light. Polarity confirmation prevents operation if the device is incorrectly attached, and both AC and 12V DC charging cables are provided. A full charge takes 4½ hours.
