JABBEKE’S CONTRIBUTION TO SPEED
The small Belgian town of Jabbeke only has around 13,500 inhabitants, but its history is much, much bigger. In the 1940s and 1950s it dominated speed record locations – manufacturers considered it fashionable to have the top speeds of its cars verified by the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium – and it wasn’t just Jaguar. Us Brits loved it there, MG, Triumph and Austin-Healey also drove its cars flat out here. A non-production MG EX 135 reached 175mph in 1948 – remarkable! YEAR CAR SPEED
