‘Please drive me and my car to Morris rally’

-

A Morris Minor owner is appealing for help to get him and his car to the Morris Vehicle Association Rally.

Darren White, from Mansfield, Notts has owned his four-door split-screen Minor Deluxe for 10 years. As his licence was revoked for medical reasons, he is unable to drive to the event and is searching for an enthusiast who can help him celebrate the Minor’s milestone.

The show will be held at Catton Hall, Walton Upon Trent, Derbyshire, on 1-3 July. ‘The NHS has cleared me to drive again after I re-take my driving test, but I keep failing my theory test!’ says Darren.

He’s not new to the Morris Minor; prior to his current car he had a split-screen Traveller. ‘I love the sound they make, the engine note and the gearbox whine. I’ve been involved in Morris Minor clubs for a number of years and I love the social scene too,’ he adds.

The Morris Vehicle Association Rally will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the best-selling Minor. It is set to be the biggest yet, with representation from each of the UK regional areas of the Morris Minor Owners’ Club.

‘If whoever helps would rather drop my car and me off on the Saturday and collect us on the Monday that’s fine with me,’ says Darren. Sam Skelton
