LEEDS CASTLE, KENT, 7-8 MAY

More than 20,000 classic fans mingled in the picturesqu­e grounds of Leeds Castle for this twoday event with more than 600 classics on show.

The Jaguars Drivers’ Club and the Kent Classic and Sports Car Club brought along the biggest displays, with each showing more than 20 cars. Other star classics included an unlikely homage to Cars character Lightning McQueen based on a Hyundai Coupé MkI, and the Batmobile used in the 1989 film Batman Returns.

In all, 20 clubs took part in the classic displays, with SELKent Mini Club among those reporting plenty of interest from showgoers.

Paul Burnell, who showed off his 1980 Mini 1275GT on the club’s stand, says: ‘It was a great event. We had a lot of interest in the cars – and we even managed to recruit three new members over the weekend.’ Rachel Johnston
