‘NOT A HUGE MARKET’

-

STEVE KELVIN is a former technical service guru for Porsche and is now motorsport manager at Porsche Club GB.

‘There isn’t a huge market for numbered stolen parts such as engines and chassis. If these parts are devoid of numbers, people steer clear of them, and rightly so. That means there’s less of a market, and therefore prices are reduced. Smaller parts might be hard to trace of course. If people are offered engines without numbers, they should ask why, and it’s the same for chassis numbers. If a chassis number isn’t present and the DVLA can’t identify the car, it’ll be given a Q plate if it’s being registered in the UK for the first time – that’s terrible for values.’
