Atlantic record breaker

-

An Austin A90 Atlantic has sold at auction for a record breaking £41,440 – almost twice what it sold for last year.

Restored in the 1990s, the Atlantic saloon went under the hammer at Historics’ Brooklands sale on 11 June. It had achieved a £25,000 hammer price at Anglia Car Auctions last year.

The 1950 Atlantic has now been bought by Potters Bar-based classic collector Roger Dudding, who says: ‘I had always wanted an Atlantic. They don’t come up for sale very often – and this one is wonderful. I definitely think it’s worth the money.’

Historics says there was a lot of pre-sale interest in the car, which helped it soar past its original £20-26k estimate.

The Austin Counties Car Club says the auction result was an amazing leap in value, particularly for the saloon model.

Atlantic model representative Mark Yeoman says: ‘Convertible Atlantics have been leading the way at around £20,000 and £25,000 for a while, but this is the first time I’ve seen a saloon going for this sort of money.’ Nick Larkin
