Timewarp Corvette to go under the hammer

An ultra low-mileage limited edition 1978 Chevrolet Corvette will be for sale at this weekend’s Coys of Kensington Schloss Dyck auction in Jüchen, Germany.

This eye-catching ‘timewarp’ vehicle is an Indianapolis Pace Car replica, made for Corvette’s 25th anniversary. Only one model was supplied to each of Chevrolet’s dealers in the US.

Chris Routledge, Coys’ chief executive, believes it’s about time it got an owner who’s willing to use it. He says: ‘ This is an unmissable opportunity to acquire a limited edition Corvette that’s crying out to be driven and enjoyed!

‘It’s possibly the only “brand new” Chevrolet Corvette 25th Anniversary Edition Indianapolis Pace Car in the world. It was purchased by an enthusiast who kept it on static display as his pride and joy, hence the low mileage with the odometer reading only 198 miles.’

Supplied with additional pace car equipment, the cost of a limited edition model was 40% higher than that of a standard Corvette. For this, they featured two-tone silver over grey paintwork with separating pinstripe, plus aluminum wheels, and a set of regalia decals including ‘winged wheel’ Indy Speedway logos and legends for the doors reading ‘Official Pace Car, 62nd Annual Indianapolis 500 Mile Race, May 28, 1978.’

The sleek fastback’s pre-sale estimate is €35,000-45,000.

?? ?? The Corvette’s odometer only shows 198 miles, most of which were gained during the car’s delivery to its US dealership.
