Fast & Furious 6

Wednesday 15 Feb @9PM, Film4

-

In case you couldn’t tell by the picture, this film is about as subtle as a thumb in the eye. But what it lacks in intellectualism, it more than makes up for with classic car content.

The plot is pretty much academic, but how many other Hollywood blockbusters do you know of that feature a Ford Escort RS1600 MkI?

The most memorable scene involves the Escort (driven by the late Paul Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner) helping to save Roman Pearce (played by Tyrese Gibson) whose Ford Mustang is about to be crushed by a tank. While crossing a massive bridge. If you think it sounds crazy, you’d be right.

More than 100 cars were destroyed during the filming, including a fleet of E60 BMW M5s and two of the five rally-spec Ford Escort RS1600s built for the film.

It’s a bit of a brainless watch, but if you stick your mind in neutral and sit back and enjoy the carnage, it’s a worthy Wednesday night watch. Murray Scullion
