Further thoughts on whitewalls
Following John Lakey’s feature on whitewall tyres (18 Jan), you then published a reader’s letter regarding a cheaper alternative, ie whitewall trims.
Having used trims like this in the past, I found that the interior compound they were made from soon deteriorated.
If used for motorway driving they will soon shred and be banging on the wheel arches – this happened to me and it’s a frightening experience. My advice would be for readers to follow John Lakey or opt for the real thing. Mike Foster, Nazeing, Essex
