‘Many have a Fiat 126 engine and gearbox’

‘ The condenser and rotor arm are unreliable, so electronic ignition is a common upgrade, but the most popular modification among members is to fit a Fiat 126 engine and gearbox. I’d estimate that as many as half of the cars in our club have had this done. Because the 500 was only ever fitted with drum brakes all round, a lot of our club members have also invested in a front disc brake conversion to go with their bigger engine. – it’s a sensible and popular upgrade,’
