Volvo 480 Turbo 1:43 scale model £29.99

- Richard Gunn ❚ www.lobsterdiecast.co.uk

The wedge-shaped Volvo 480 was an oddball of 1980s motoring with pop-up headlamps and a large glass tailgate to link it with its spiritual 1800ES predecessor. Somewhat overlooked now, they’re still rather entertaining, with their electronic instruments, Lotustweaked suspension and engines breathed upon by Porsche.

This Triple 9 Collection effort from Lobster Diecast is part of a worldwide run of 600 cars – probably more than there are actual survivors. The bright red 1987 Turbo’s rakish shovel shape looks spot-on and trouble has obviously been taken on the details, right down to the alloy wheels, two-tone door mirrors and locks set into the door pillars. The lettering is crisp, readable and in the right fonts and those who like the finer points in life will appreciate the slender front and rear windscreen wipers and rear window heater matrix. The quality of the paint is probably as good as Volvo achieved on the actual cars and the cabin looks largely correct. A lovely model, well worth the price.
