…as it’s yellow! Cars wanted for run to support elderly vandalism victim

All classics are invited to support a 100-car convoy through the Cotswolds, but there’s just the one stipulation – they must be yellow!

The event on 1 April is in support of 84-year-old Peter Maddox, whose bright yellow Vauxhall Corsa was vandalised outside his home in Bilbury because some people felt it was a blot on the landscape of the picture postcard Gloucestershire village.

The ‘yellowists’ smashed windows and etched the word ‘move’ on the bonnet of Peter’s car, which led to many people flocking to the retired dentist’s support on social media.

Among them was Matty Bee, owner of a yellow Volvo S40, who got together with Cowley convoy organiser Tanya Field and others to organise the event. ‘Peter deserved support for what happened to his car and the inconvenience it has caused him,’ says Tanya. ‘It started as a light-hearted possibility but so many people have got behind it now.’

The convoy will start from the Cotswold Wildlife Park at Burford and travel via Bibury – although it won’t be stopping there.

‘A lot of people like yellow cars and, being easy to spot, they are said to be the safest on the road,’ says Tanya.

Peter will be travelling with the convoy and picking his favourite yellow car. All the money raised from staging the event will be going to a local charity he has chosen, the Butterfly Garden in Cheltenham.

While the convoy itself is already oversubscribed there is room for between 400 and 500 yellow cars to go on show at Cotswold Wildlife park to support the charity event.

If you’d like to take your yellow classic along you must get in touch with the event organisers beforehand, and be able to arrive at the venue in time for the 9am start.
