HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD IT?

I’ve owned it since 1986 but my father bought the car in 1983 for £1500 from the local Opel main dealer, having had two Rekord saloons previously. When I got the car the bodywork was quite poor but with the help of a MIG welder would have passed an MoT. But rather than bodging, I took the plunge and had the body restored using new factory panels, which were still available at the time. These included both sills and doors, offside rear wing and rear panel. It was resprayed in the original white.

HOW MUCH HISTORY?

The original supplying dealer in Bristol told me that the car was one of six prepared for an exhibition/ show by Opel UK back in 1975. They were all different to the brochure – mine has never had a vinyl roof as was standard at the time. The dealer had to buy all six, which were all white, if he wanted them. So he did, but I think mine is the only one left. I have old MoT certificates and the bill of sale to my father as well as invoices for the parts I bought for the restoration. The original owner (whom I have met) wrote down all the jobs done on the car during his ownership in the back of the handbook. Just some general fettling. I’d like to replace the front brake discs as they are slightly lipped, and possibly fit a stainless steel exhaust.

HAS IT BEEN MODIFIED?

No.
