As general man­ager of the MG Own­ers’ Club, Richard is fa­mil­iar with this model, hav­ing owned his 1974 V8 for 42 years. ‘I con­sid­ered the V8 the ul­ti­mate MG at the time and the black paint­work and chrome bumpers re­ally stood out,’ he says. ‘I cer­tainly didn’t think I’d still own it af­ter so many years. It’s just how things have evolved, and when I started work­ing full time with the club back in 1980 I re­ally didn’t think about part­ing with it. It’s got a 3.9-litre ver­sion of the V8 en­gine and a five-speed gear­box, plus a few other up­grades such as elec­tric win­dows and a sun­roof. It’s a very us­able car – and the ar­rival of spring means there’s a great ex­cuse to drive to work in it.‘
