Lee has two FDs – one is completely original while the other is anything but. ‘In 2014 I bought an FD with a Rover V8 installed, but it was very much a project,’ he says. ‘It was still fitted with the original rear axle; I’ve now fitted a more robust, higher-ratio Ventora unit. I’ve also fitted a Borg-Warner Type 35 gearbox, a stronger propshaft and I’ve upgraded the cooling system. The radiator was up to the job but it didn’t have the airflow, so now I’ve installed a pair of 10in Revotec electric fans to prevent overheating. There’s loads of space for a V8 as the FD was designed from the outset to be fitted with such an engine, but the oil crisis hit and GM scaled things back.’
