Glasto drive-in cinema
Watch famous movies from the comfort of a Jaguar XJ
A brand-new feature at next month’s Glastonbury Festival will be a unique classic car cinema – made up exclusively of Jaguar XJs.
Around 50 cars are set to feature, and all are expected to be X300/X308s from the 1990s. Organisers have managed to find around half of the cars they need, but are still actively seeking the remaining cars, with just five weeks to go.
Among the films scheduled to be screened during the four-day music event are classics Blade Runner and The
Italian Job - plus a couple of car-related favourites to tie in with the Jaguar theme.
All the cars already sourced have been fitted with new batteries and treated to fresh oil changes. In addition, their rear wheel hubs have been adapted with spacers to help them to cope with Glastonbury’s frequently muddy fields.
A prerequisite of the Glastonbury Classic Car Cinema is that the vehicles must be capable of driving to the cinema site (which is reputed to be located adjacent to the West Campervans field) and their storage location, negating the need for plant machinery to transport each XJ in an attempt to keep as much of the venue intact as possible.
Once the Festival is over, the cars will be retained and maintained for use again next year – a further prerequisite being that the cars remain in a usable condition.
