1973 BMW 3.0CSL
This 1973 car, which had been properly looked after all its life, showed just how popular BMW E9s are. It had been restored some time ago and, while highly usable, some might have looked at it as a full-on restoration case. Owned by the vendor since 1990, the Fjord Metallic Blue car looked good from a distance, but on closer inspection was more so-so, while the interior was in good order. Mechanically it was said to be ‘driving well’ thanks to a replacement engine fitted in 1991. It needed UK registering if staying here, but that aside, Silverstone once again pulled a classic rabbit out of a hat with this price, streets away from its £55,000 upper estimate.
