I MODDED MINE
Frank Richardson’s 1958 TR3A has been rebuilt three times In the 48 years that he’s owned it, raced for five seasons and is now a muchmodified road car. ‘ The lightened and balanced engine improves refinement, power and durability,’ he says. ‘ The rack-and-pinion steering is more precise and the TR7 five-speed gearbox raises the gearing. A hightorque starter motor helps with hot starting, swapping from a dynamo to an alternator keeps the battery charged up and an electric fan helps cooling. Rerouting the fuel lines down the driver’s side so they don’t go round the front of the engine helps the petrol stay cool, too. ‘I’ve fitted Mazda MX-5 seats – they’re more comfortable and supportive than the originals.’
