A fully restored 1958 Jaguar XK150 dhc has raised more than half a million pounds at a recent Cannes Film Festival gala event in aid of AIDS research charity, Amfar.

Essex-based classic car specialist, Vintage and Prestige Classic Cars, facilitated the donation by Byrnes Heritage Motor Trust.

The Jaguar was part of a star-studded auction which took place at the Hotel du Cap at Antibes in the French Riviera, near Cannes on 21 May.

Vintage & Prestige Classic Cars was tasked with getting the car to the hotel and displaying it on a red carpet walkway ahead of a gala dinner that also saw movie stars like Jake Gyllenhaal, Natalie Portman and John C Reilly in attendance.

Richard Biddulph, Vintage and Prestige managing director, helped to persuade film star Nicole Kidman and 2016 Formula 1 World Champion, Nico Rosberg, to sign the Jaguar’s dashboard prior to the auction, something he thinks helped the car to achieve the final price.

The 22nd annual Cinema Against AIDS gala raised a total of more than £23.2 million for Amfar’s aids research. Other items up for auction included an 18-foot sculpture by artist Jeff Koons called Colouring Book that sold for over £10m.
